My two oldest fry look like they both have black gravid spots, but I caught them out of the big tank and put them in the breeder net the same day they were born. So how could they be pregnant if they were never around a male?????

Female guppies get the gravid spot even when they are not pregnant. It is the eggs inside of them that are showing through the thin skin of the area. It is possible that they could be pregnant only if they had contact with males.

So they're most likely not? Thank god, I wanted to put them both in with a lyretail male so I'll have lyretails too instead of just the ones I do have. Yea!

How old are your females? If you want to breed them wait until they are a few months old at least, any earlier then that and they can have complications during pregnancy. I learned the hard way, I tried breeding young females and they ended up dying! Also, feed them a diet high in protein (from live foods such as bloodworms, daphnia or tubiflex worms), they will have larger broods that way.

Red spot is eggs.

Black spot is fry.
 Exactley

The gravid spot is actually the frys' eyes poking through the sking ......
Some fish dont get a gravid spot at all I'm not exactley sure why. If the are fry and very small are you sure it isn't just their first organs developing ?

I don't know exactly how old they are, as I forgot to write the date done that they were born, but the biggest is about ---------- long, and the other is about -------, and both of them have black at their back ends. Maybe it is just their guts, I'm certainly hoping!

Guppymonkey, I was going to wait awhile till they are big enough to go in the thirty gallon before breeding them, unless I have to put them back in breeder net in the thirty because of any of the two new fry being males, but even then I'll wait till they are bigger before I breed. I really want lyretails.

Some of my guppy fry showed gravid spots from 2 weeks old. These are now 5 weeks old and still show their gravid spot where the others have not had one and are developing into males. What I'm trying to say is that mine showed their spot very early on but have had no access to males that could make them pregnant. My new 2 week old fry have also started to show some gravid spots.
