I have platies and guppys in my tank which these fry could belong to but the guppys have only been in the tank 2 days and the fry are about 0.5cm long if not bigger, and i thought all my platies were the same sex :/

the fry look like tadpoles with a white blob and clear long tail.

Sounds like Guppy fry to me! Most likely you got a pregnant female, and she decided to give birth.

Congrats! :D

Yeah i agree probably one of them was pregnant when you first bought them but it could be either platy or guppy fry.
Unfortunatly there isn't alot of difference between guppy and platy fry and you probably won't find out until they are much older.
Guppy fry tend to grow faster than platy fry and platy fry are slightly shorter than guppy fry but thats about it.
Its not vital you have to know who the parent fish was though, just make sure you can give them a staple enviroment to live in and adequete food.

Just wanted to add...
I notice my Platy fry were born a lot shorter, and fatter though. The Guppy fry always looked long and slender...

But it might be hard to tell exactly what your fry are, until they grow up a little!

Luckily they have lots of places to hide in my tank, But if they are guppy fry i can't understand how they are so big, ive only had the guppies 2 days lol

I find if i have a female who delivers a very big batch of fry(say 25+) in comparrison to a guppy who has a small batch(say 8), the fry from the larger batch will be smaller than the fry from the smaller batch.
Did the tank have any other fish in it before you added the guppys and platys?

the only other fish are my neon tetras, but i read that their eggs have to be in a dark tank to survive so i kinda ruled them out :dunno:

Yes i agree; they are probably only big for the reason i stated before and i suspect they are guppy fry from what i have heard so far.
Good luck with raising them :)

Yep, I've noticed the same thing Toxis. The smaller the batch, the bigger the fry.

When my Guppy had just 3 fry, they were pretty big! And when she had a bigger batch, of about 20 or so, they were teeny tiny.

I always had small batches of Platty fry. Never had more than 3 ;)

Also, it might be worth noting that livebearers can store up sperm for a while. So you could find that even if you have all females in the tank, you will still end up with a few batches of fry

do you have plants in ur tank?

i had bought a plant from the lfs and there were eggs attached to them :dunno:

The eggs you had were probably snail eggs.
Livebearers don't lay eggs...they give birth to live young, hence the name livebearers. :)

i too have just bought females a few weeks back and have now got bout 22 guppy fry, and ive still got 4 more batches to come from the other females.i'm not even a breeder!
