Hello, it seems my fry have stopped growing on me like they used to. It used to be a noticeable growth from week to week, but it doesnt seem that way anymore. I thik they're still growing, but not as fast. They're a little under an inch, and i need to get them to an inch to sell them. I havent changed feeding or anything, the only thing i did was move the biggest/oldest platy babies out of their tank to free up some room. Is this normal for them to stop growing rapidly like they used to?

PS - I feed them flakes and BS. I'm going to get some frozen bloodworms and try that as it is high in protein. Will that help some?

Mine have done the same but don't worry they will grow big enough in a couple of weeks, i have two that are about 4-5 weeks old and there about an inch and a half, they did stop growing but i put them in my community tank and they seem to be growing, i think they need more space to grow.

Wow, mine are almost 3 months old and they havent hit 1 inch yet. There are a lot of them in my tank, so i kinda expected them to grow a bit slower than normal. I just want to get rid of them now, and my LFS said they need to be 1 inch long. Its worth the wait since im getting $1 per guppy!

I bought frozen blooworms today, in hope that the high protein will give them a growth spurt, so i can sell them.

Try more water changes, this seems to help in the growth rate. Turning up the heat a little increases metabolism, thus growth.

Don't go too heavy with the bloodworms. While they are a great food for conditioning & growth, they can lead to constipation & bloat in livebearers. Supplementing with fresh veggies helps keep their digestive system moving.

Many small feedings will work better than a couple of large ones daily.

OK, ill try that out and see how it works out. Thanks for the help Tolak.

hi
with our first big batch of swordies i noticed that some rapidly grew up to over an inch but others in the tank stayed teeny.the owner of our lfs told me that fry can release a hormone into the water that will keep the rest of the batch small...what i mean is you may have a couple of large fry & they release this hormone to keep the others around them smaller so they can be the 'biggest' boss fish. apparently doing more frequent water changes helps to stop this effect. if anyone knows this not to be true please correct me.
i started doing small 3 weekly water cahnges in our tank & the rest of the fry seem to have caught up with the biggies apart from one or 2 who are probably just naturally smaller in stature!!! this may be coincidence but im not sure.
there will also be variations in size just like there is with all other species including us humans.
