:D :) My platy was doing that 45deg. angle thingy, and breathing all hard, so i figured she was giving birth. I wanted to move the male out of the tank because he was still chasing her, but I couldn't catch him, so I moved her to a bowl. (She gave birth to about 20 fry :) ) !!!! WOOT! MY FIRST FRY! I've been feeding them crushed up tropical fish flakes, but they don't really seem too hungry. I moved her out of the bowl because she was chasing them this morning. Are there any special things I need to do to care for my fry? Will the flake food be fine? How about being in a fish bowl with no air stone, heater filter ect. (Its all I have, unless they go back into my 10 gallon with everyone else) (or the bigger bowl I have my betta in, also no ammenities)They do have a fake plant, and a live plant in there to keep tham company... What do you all think?

First of..... CONGRATS! I remember my first fry... I only had one... so small and cute.

I went out and bought some fry food... it's the consistancy of flour... very fine powder. It took almost a week for my fry to figure out the food was at the top... i had to push it down so she saw it for a while.

For healthy fast growing fish, change the water frequently... 10% everyother day or so. And feed them about 4 times a day if you can.

As for the bowl... i recomend going out and buying a small breeding net or divided nursing tank... the kind that hooks on the side of your tank. This way they stay in the water they are used to, have water movement and air as well.

Good luck with the little guys, and feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

till you can get a net, put the bowl on top of your tank, and the lights will help keep it warmer.i would at least get an airstone in there for now.

wow congratulations!! i am waiting my platy to give birth! so i read lots about that!!
;) anyway u need a breeding net, becasue if you just keep them in a bowl without filetr or airstone they might not be healthy and if you move them in to your big community tank there is a big chance of them being eaten!! but you know what no matter how hard you try to make perfect environment for them expect for some fry to die!!!!
