i know people ask this question all the time, but bear with me please. my new guppy gave birth to four little ones yesterday (possibly more, i'm not sure yet).
all i have are flakes and a sample of micro pellets hikari sent me. i tried feeding them finely crushed flakes but they didn't seem to into it.

what do you all suggest? i don treally have the money to go ahead and buy brine shrimp...

They really need more than fish flakes, they do need some frozen foods in there diet, you could try a mushed up pea.

If they were just born they will probably not need to eat at first since they can live off the egg sac for a day or so and then pretty much any dry food you can crush finely should work for a bit but a varied diet is always best.

guppies are livebearers, they don't lay eggs
the fry will need to eat shortly after they are born

I use baby brine shrimp and hikari first bites

feed little but feed often, like 3-4 times a day the first few days. afetr about 2 weeks, they should be able to eat finely crushed flakes

It may be different with Guppies, I have not had any, but Swords at any rate are live born after they are developed from eggs that have been developed inside the mother. With my last batch of Swords, which I was present during the birth, I noted that the stomachs were much larger at birth then they were a few hours later. There was also an undeveloped egg that was released at the same time. The fry were not interested in the foods that were offered them at first but then after a while they became interested in it and began testing the different ones offered. They seem to like finely crushed Tetra diskus, and and algea based mush that I got from my lfs(not sure exactly what is in it but I think it is a puree of algea and brine shrimp, its green and spongy and I have to mush it up so it is small enough).
