Hoorah :shout: my guppy has finally given birth......now like an unprepared father what do I feed them on to give them the best start? I powdered up some TetraPrima which they seem to be going for.

Suggested preferences?

Congratulations :)

I just ground up some regular fish food to a fine powder with a mortar and pestle for my fry, works like a charm :)

Thank you to all

Here are the little blighters

Hikari make some fry food. It's basically powdered food but it works very well. The most fry will eat them. The guppies love it

You can also get some brine shrimp which you hatch yourself in a solution of salt water, hatching takes 24 hours and the newly hatched shrimp are full of nutrients. You can pick up some brine shrimp cysts for a pretty low price on e-bay.

You can also culture microworm, check e-bay again for live stocks of this.

Additionally if you blend up some lettuce/boil some grass (from your garden! :)) you can put this in a glass bottle of tank water and leave it to sit for a few days. The small critters that grow in your bottle are called infusoria. The fry will love this.

Also you can feed them on ground flakes as you have already mentioned yourself! :) but these flakes do not offer as many nutrients as the above suggestions. Its like a choice of feeding human children with cow's milk or breast milk...big difference there!!

Give the fry the best start, ween them on the flakes after a while. I know that many will have different ideas on this but I'm going on what I have read over the past few weeks on this topic. :)
