I have some platies and mollies and one or two of the has had babys. They are about 5 days old and seem to be doing just fine. My question is when will I be able to see any color on them? As of now they are mostly light grey or even transparant. Also will mollies and platies of different colors cross to produce different colors? Thanks in advance.

Light gray or transparent? What color Mollies do you have? And Platies? How soon the fry get coloring can depend on what colors and markings the parents have. For example, if you have Black Mollies, the fry sometimes get darker within a few weeks. :) Or if you have greyish fish, the fry might not get any markings for a while.

And Mollies and Platies can't breed together. So no chance of them crossing to get another color.

It can vary alot, my swordtails often start to show there colour after about two weeks however my dalmation mollies change colour about 4 times and dont reach the final colour until they are about 3 or 4 months old!!! And my guppies do not reach there final colour unyil they are at least 3 months old!!!

Thanks for the reply and help guys. Another question. I know at sometime I will have more fish than my tank will support. What to you guys do with the extra fish? My tank is a 55 gallon and with drift wood and other stuff I have maybe 45 gallons of water. At this time I have 13 adult platies and mollies and a whole bunch of little ones. Sometimes I see 3 or 4 and one time I think I counted 14! If they all grow up that will be more than enough for my tank. Thanks in advance!

My mollies come out usually black, guppies grey, swordies orange cause I have pineapple swordies.

yer my mollies normally start off blck however they then go to be grey and then white befor getting a few black markings and then about a month later they go alot more black!!
