Hi,

I read on one of the messages that guppies and platties should have some vege's and frozen peas peeled were good. Can't find that message now but thanks for the person who posted that.

Well last night I tried it and I must say THEY LOVED THEM.

I peeled the peas (about 10 I suppose) .. and waited for them to thaw and popped them in.

They went crazy and are more active and happy.

My question is ... some of the peas are still leftover from last night but they are still having a pick at them and seem to be enjoying it.

Is it like fish food and you should get out what they haven't eaten in 5 or so minutes or like plants .. they can stay in there for them to nibble on.

I think next time I would put in less... would love to know as it seems to be a big enjoyment to them. I have substitued the peas for their usual flakes .. meaning I have not feed them as well as the peas. I skipped their flakes last night and also this morning and maybe again tonight .. depending if anyone lets me know otherwise.

Thanks
Desley

Peas are good for ALL the fish. They help in the digestive system. You don't want to leave peas in there longer than 24 hours, since it could rot and grow mold if you don't have sufficient filtration.

Hi Ed,

Thanks to you and crazie.eddie.

The fish have eaten all the peas up now. They munched on them during the day and had a ball.

I noticed one of the platties poo was a lighter colour. Almost the colour of the peas !! Is this normal ?

How often should I give them peas (won't give them quite so many next time).... and do I substitute this for a normal meal ie.. don't feed them flakes as well.

Any other tips to feed guppies, platties & danios. Its fun to watch them eat the peas as it takes them a lot longer as they munch on them for hours (leaves my poor snail alone for a change too). They seem to try to munch on him !!

Thanks Ed,
Desley

Their feces turning light green is normal. You can give the peas as a seperate food, so you can rotate the flakes, peas, and whatever else you feed them.

I have LOTS of fish foods that I rotate, like bloodworms (frozen/freeze dried), fish flakes, freeze dried daphnia, tetra bits, blanched zuchini, peas (skinned), and carnivor pellets. Though I normally give my pl*cos an extra feeding of peas, especially after giving meaty foods.

Thanks again Ed,

I will have to investigate this as I thought you just gave them fish food from the shop. I will see what I can find thats on your list and try it out !!
Thanks for the help again.
I actually found one of my guppies that was inactive has sparked up a little (still a little quiet) but when those peas came out she went into action.
Maybe thats the tonic she needed !!

Thanks so much again. I need to find a good aquarium to get some different styles of foods from I think. Mine gave me vege based flakes.. thats about the best they had to offer.

It order for fish to be healthy and happy, it's best to give them a variety of foods. One shelf on our freezer in our basement is full of food for the fish, though it's hard to tell since you can see the frozen peas (grocery bought) and the zuchini (grocery bought) sitting there.

Cant say I've ever tried peeling a pea, is it easier to peel when its frozen? think I'll have a go tonight.

I wouldn't feed them canned food Celestial. Most canned stuff has added stuff to preserve the food. Its harmless for humans, for most part, but I dunno what it would do to fish.
