I have a whole bunch of frozen foods for my tropical fish but have noticed that some are labeled as "marine and tropical" and others are just labeled "tropical" so I was wondering if there is a good reason it shouldnt be fed to marine fish.

A couple of the ones that are labeled tropical only are tubifix (I dont feed these very often and probably wont ever buy anymore once my current lot is gone) and red mosquito (which my FW fish love and I have used a lot when conditioning them).

Is there any reason I why some frozen food would only be suitable for freshwater fish? I can think of a few possibilites as to why but none seem very likely.

hmm trying to find more information on this. Is Red Mosquito Larvae actually bloodworm? I always thought they looked very similar but never put it together that they could be the same thing :)

The nutrient content of marine and FW foods are different, especially the fat content.

With that being said, I doubt that it'll really matter as long as the FW food is a suppliment to the marine fish diet. You can eat some junk food occasionally and it won't hurt.

I feed bloodworm, both freeze dried and frozen, mysis shrimp and lobster eggs. I don't bother with frozen brine because they are pretty much void of nutrients.

Mysis are readily gobbled up, but my fish go totally mental for lobster eggs. My clowns look so cute when they stuff themselves silly on the eggs and have a fat belly on them. :)

I have tried freeze dried tubiflex, which none of the fish were interested in, daphnia which again are largely ignored and mini shrimp.

Will have to give lobster eggs a go do you get them from your LFS? My clowns dont seem very interested in anything I have tried so far. They seem to have a little nibble of everything then lose interest. One of them is eating flake but the other doesnt seem to like it.

You might be able to get them at your LFS although they don't seem to be very common. I can send you the email address of a vendor I get mine from if you like?

Can you also send me an email with details of the vendor you get your lobster eggs from please AK77 as my clownfish are also very picky eaters and I am currently struggling to get 1 of them in particular to feed! :good:

I feed mysis, bloodworm, flake, pellet, spirulina enriched brine, and fish roe (fish eggs from an asian market). the fan-favorite is by far and away the roe...
