Hi, I am starting an African cichlid tank in the 6ft 75 Gallon tank that i just bought. I want to put a single large frontosa in with Malawi cichlids(I havn't decided which ones yet). Will there be problems with this? Will the frontosa be happy? What are the potential complications with this, besides the different dietary requirements?

the front will grow alot bigger than the smaller fish so they mite become food.

what are the dimensions of your tank?

if its 6ft i think it will be bigger than 75G.

jus checked the fish index

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=34980

thats the fronts page and it says under feeding that they eat sleeping fish.

try find out how fast they grow?

while I have a single frontosa, I dont recomend it, they like to be in groups. If I had a good lfs with in 2 hours of me I'd probably have more.

now as for housing with other malawi, my recomendation would be research research!!!! Find the docile easy going tank mate.

I had mine in with Haps and once they got over 4 inches they became too fussy for my front. now he's in with the majority being from Tanganyika.

Could you keep a frontosa with things like convicts oscars parrot fish????? Probably not but i thought that mammfish would be the best person to ask.

no wayyyy

not only are their parameters different their aggression is also. even though fronts are big and look mean, their not really at all. the convicts would end up beating the crap out of them to the point of massive stress and the oscar..well that goes with out saying. parrot fish....you really dont want to ask me how I feel about them LOL

Yeah i was sure but i was checking i know people that have a front with parrots and bits i want a front for my 100g but dont know what to put with it.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA TANGANYIKA TANKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

can I help

lmaoooo I'm all a twitter!!!!!

start a new thread so we dont get "fussed" at...

Fronts do best in a group (5+). Preferably with as few males as possible.

Others that can be kept with them include plecs, synos, clown loaches, c.morii, leilupi, brichardi to name a few. yello labs have also been successful with some.

sav & mark jumps the guy to pm about fronts, its obvoius by his avi he's done the frontosa justice!!

their an amazing and personable fish but IMHO not for beginners. (not saying you 2 are, just stating my opinion)

My tank is 72X 14X 18
Does anyone have experience with keeping Frontosa's with Malawi's?
What are the best Malawi's to keep with frontosa?
How many Frontosa could i keep in my tank?

I come up with 66 imperial gallons and 78 us gallons, is this right?

IMHO you dont have enough space for frontosa and their needs. drop the front idea and concentrate on something else.

In a six foot tank you can keep a nice shoal of around 8 or 9 young ones, thinning out the males as they grow older and develop. In the first year they can grow up to 4 or 5 inches IME.

C.Moorii are commonly kept as they are a similar temprement and size. Anything too active or aggressive will spook the fronts otherwise and affect their behaviour.

Why not stay with Tangs and get some leilupi or brichardi or Calvus to go with them??

I hate it discourage people from keeping these wonderful fish, but I have to agree. You need a 125 minumum to start with to do them justice and have enough room to spread the aggression form the alpha around the colony.

Plenty of other lovely fish from that Lake you can try!
