Frontosa Missing An Eye

Have had a delivery of 5 Juvi Fronts this morning, all seemed to settle well but have just turned on the lights to notice one is missing an eye!! Anyone with experience of these cichids who can tell me how well he will survive like this?

does it look like a recent injury or is it more likely he was born with it?
if its recent, just keep the water in tip top cleanliness and let it heal...should do just fine. ive seen one eyed fish before and they've never had a problem.
(unless theres preditors around but in a home aquarium im guessing thats unlikely)

Cant tell spishkey, it doesnt look too recent to me, just a little red around the eye socket, he seems ok in himself and eating well, just concerend he might not be able to find his way around, but he seems to keep up with the group well enough.

Losing an eye isn't too traumatic for a fish. I've seen quite a few and they always seem to adapt.

Ive seen a book about this.

Any Chance of a pic, for two reasons, one i would like to see, other is that how big is the red patch around the eye?

Here is a pic I took earlier, not easy to see, but you can see the eye is gone and the redness just behind the eye socket.

What was the book and what did it say. Any information you can give would be appreciated

To be honest the more Ive looked at it, it definately isnt a recent injury, more likely birth defect as it looks almost healed over.

It just said, Some fish can be born without eyes, very rare but it can happen, it can also when young "lose it" in many ways, When it gets older losing an eye can be for lots of reasons and can be very serious. It was something like the book for fish keepers, it was from our local library i think i just picked it out the selves.

I would just keep an eye on that red area for somthing bacterial.
