From the short time I have been here....

The reason I have the fish in the 5 gallon to start them is I wanted a small tank set up here at my shop, after I have my 55 gallon, mind you, I will have just small fish here, but being a fantail lover, I wanted to be able to look at them here too and watch them grow till it is time to move them.

I also don't see what is wrong with the information you were given. Also if you are not happy with it, simply do more research (can use the search function for this).

Ich has a lifecycle of 3 weeks + and the medication is only able to treat when the creatures (not sure what they are) are freeswimming. This is after the spots have gone, this means that when the spots go is the most important time to treat.

As for moving the fish when they get bigger, you might want to be careful doing this as fish can become stunted when they di ot have adequate space and so they may not be growing properly to begin with. A plec, 3+ fantails and some cories in a 55gallon is pushing it IMO. As you know so much about so much you will know why.

I see no reason for you to spit the dummy. People don't have to help you and if you do not want to accept the information or find your own then that's up to you.

I agree with CS after looking at all the info.

People were not to know initially that you have/had experience and were prepared for upgrading tanks.
Now you have explained several times it has now become clear... end of discussion, next topic, right? What is the problem exactly.....?

I really hope you don't take offence at peoples assumptions, unless you initially give the information ppl will make them :/

I know you have previous "forum experience", but it may pay to pre-empt comments like these in your initial post, so that people wont post things like "that tank is too small" etc. If you had put more detail initially you wouldnt of had the comments im sure.....

Once again im sorry you are feeling down on this forum, i hope you stick with it and start to reap the rewards this very knowledgable community has to offer :)

Ah, you say the nicest things about me sometimes! ;)

Not happy with the avatar change btw, almost didn't recognise you!!

Sara, why not just start again? Many people like this site and it;s a shame that you have experienced something that made you not like it. It really is better to know things and to be in a position where you can find out information for if/when you need it.

We all want the same thing, don't we? To be able to look after out fish as best we can...

Well I have gone through all of this before on bird forums, I have a B&G Macaw, and joined a couple bird groups last year, at first when you are a newbie, they want to jump all over you and act like you don't know what you are doing.
sara, as i said before i'm quite new here but have had and read lots of good advice given to us newbies.

dis the newbie is not a game that members of tff play, maybe your previous experience has coloured your expectations and this is a shame.

ppl here give advice to the best of their knowledge based on the facts that they are given. ppl gave advice on the facts that you have a fish capable of growing too big for the tank it is presently housed in and they mentioned this for the sake of the fish.

cheese specialists idea of just starting again seems a good one to me and we can all take this as a lesson to remember to give as much info as poss when asking advice

i have to back the others up im afriad, sometimes u dont always like what u hear, but at the end of the day ppl will state the obious (i know i know i cant spell)

this forum isnt all that bad, i felt the same way when i first started on her... an im still here now lol

sometimes things can get a bit heated, this is normal as we all have different opinions and we all LOVE to state our opinions.

im sorry u feel that no one could help u... there are loads of pinned topics.. maybe as suggested u should read them? or do a search

once u get used to us bickerin u will begin to love this place...

hope u stick around and learn as much as u can, goin on ur own can sometimes be hard, and normaly risky.... we are here to help an will in any way we can

have u tried testing ur water? is there somthing else u havnt thought of?

all things may be answered given time :fun:

I have to say I can't see what the fuss is about either?

You posted a question without giving any background information (which is not uncommon) like how long you've been keeping fish, future plans, etc. and get upset when people have to make thier own deductions. When more detail was given people then understood you position but because they didn't feel they had any advice they haven't replied and it is only 2 days since you posted the question.

Unfortunately people do see the 'newbie' tag as meaning that you know diddly squat about fishkeeping and you yourself said that you are a member of other forums so i'm sure you've reacted in a similar way at some time. As you are a member of other forums and know about the 'newbie' stigma I would have thought you might have given a little more information in your original post to explain to people that you are not a newbie to fishkeeping, only this forum.

I hope this doesn't sound like 'bashing' but the people here are very friendly, knowledable and care a great deal about fish, don't let a bit of confusion spoil your view of this forum :)

I've waited as long as 2 days to get a significant amount of responses :dunno: , and sometimes get next to nothing , also I realize that you're new here , but where you post a question can determine how long it takes to get a reply . eg . tropical fish emergencies / cold water fish and ponds . that was my problem in the beginning , the people that could have helped me were mostly on other areas of the forum , someone can come up after you and bump you down until you've gone down so far nobody that can answer it even sees your post.

The advice you got in the time you got it was pretty good I.M.O .

some people are on everyday , others maybe a few times a week , some less often then that.

Hang in there ,most people here are helpful and try to answer questions asked , Stick around and be one of them .

Also take a look at some of the pinned topics as they can also be very helpful .

Oh .....and welcome to the forums  ;)

Well, I suppose I'll chime in,having just stumbled on this thread :p Quite interesting.

Yes,my reply was short and sweet (imo anyway) The point was...the fish doesn't have ich for no reason :dunno: Unfortunately it was seen as rude but trust me..I was being polite. I coincidently had just been at my lfs earlier that day admiring a fantastic fantail who was incidently quite large. When I read the thread my thoughts flashed to him...then to a 5 gallon in my fish room...then back to him, then to him with another in a 5'er just his size  No,no,no

And I think you Sara, would feel the same if someone came to your bird forum and said (for example) "look at my new McCaw, he lives in a parakeet cage and he's sick...does he need a friend in there?"
Do you see my point?
And I never saw your reply. I get caught up in other forums and I usually add a reply to certain threads just to get the replies rolling.

Congrats on your new 55, it would be nice if you stick around while you set it up.

I'm sorry that you feel this way, this really is a great forum, but I'm not quite sure what replies you were hoping to get :/ Also, I'm sorry you feel like people treated you as a fish beginner, but that's generally a safe assumption when someone says they have a fantail in a 5 gallon
