i have been reading up quite a bit on tanks, etc. and i am now convinced the gravel i bought is too big. I tried looking for different grades of gravel when i bought the whole set-up, but they bags didn't hav a grade so i just forgot about it an grabbed a few of the biggest bags and went.

now i am thinking about going to sand with a layer of somthing below it (the name escapes me, it is great for plant growing tho)

what i am wondering is pretty much any info about this how hard, how much, good idea bad idea, HOW to go about it...

i have just started cycling my tank with fish about a week ago its not yet complete. I have gold gouramis, and am hoping to eventually have angelfish, so is sand good for them?

again any info would be great thanks!

Since the tank isn't cycled anyway, just put the fish in a seperate container and redo the tank, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know what filter you're running, but if you can run it on the container the fish are in it's an added bonus.

Make sure you rinse out the sand really really well. Sand is great for bottom feeders and fish that like to pick at the bottom, and the rest won't care one way or another.

If you go with a layer below the sand, it will all get mixed up eventually. 2-3 inches of sand is good with plants, with fake plants you just need enough to cover the bottoms.
