My main tank, 65litres, is a fancy goldfish tank and I don't know how or why but I suddenly wanted to try bettas, so I did a little research and now I have a little blue male.

I only stumbled on this site today and I've got to say its very interesting but kinda made me feel a bit guilty! While I was waiting for my new tank my Betta was in a coffee jar! (empty of coffe of course!)
But he's ok now, in an Aquawave UMA (Ultra Mini Aquarium) which are designed for fighters. It's got it's own mini heater and light. I know he loves it - 10mins after he went in he was making a bubble nest and eating straight away too! I think I have a very adabtable fish! :D

Hopefully I'll have a picture of him soon

And another thing- is anyone else in the UK having the same problem as me with getting Betta food? I've been to at least 10 fish shops and none have food specificaly for Bettas.

You don't NEED anything especially for bettas ;) Frozen foods will be ok along with live foods or just a good quality pellet. Can i reccomend Atisons Betta PRO from www.kgbettas.co.uk - i recently got some stuff from there and it is really good stuff :)

heh, bettas aren't too fussed about how pretty their aquarium is. they just want a couple gallons of clean warm water. most of the rest is just for us people. ;)

Cool have fun with it! Welcome to the froum! I want to get a Betta soon I already have the 5.5 gallon tank waiting for it (just add gravel small heater and a Betta .............. and water!!!)

i cant wait to see a pic lol i kept my mealworms for my beardie in a coffee jar cause i lost the mini cage for them lol. but i eventually found it. anyways.

a word of caution: please please please never feed your bettas goldfish food. i dont know why but some people keep them in the same tank. and its just badd

Feed them goldfish food? But they're not goldfish!!

I was contemplating putting them together when I was desiding on getting one (well not straight in together but in one of those little contraptions that stick to the front/side of the tank) but I did want him to have some room!
Also I've been watching my Betta quite closely and have noticed something- both his tank and my goldfish tank were next to each other at the start and when ever my shubunkin or my blackmoor with the longer tail swam past, my betta would flare up.
So they are definately staying apart!

Hopefully I'll soon have some pics up for you all to see!

Well my little star doesn't want to be photographed today -_-
nevermind

:hyper: Aha! Bingo! *Star*!
Yes! I have a name for him!
(Lol I've never been very good with naming things!)

:-( Well I can't get any more photos of him because I came home this morning to find him dead in his tank.

I have absolutly no idea why he died tho the only thing that I can see on him is a brown kinda fluffy circle on his side (I'll try to get a pic on in a bit) He did kinda seem a bit off last night then perked up a bit this morning, I've only had him 4 days! I was not expecting this at all!
