As any chat regulars will know, the Frog-Man passed away just after Christmas. He was one of 9 SW fish I lost in about 5 weeks across three different systems, yet throughout the test results were normal. Whilst clearing out the camera I found the last pics of him:

And while sorting out photos I came across the best one Nina has taken.

But now, on to happier times. I have been eyeing up a white ribbon eel (Pseudechidna brummeri) in an lfs for a while. I know they have had it for some time (2-3 months minimum) in a live rock tank and it has been feeding (these things are said to be harder to get feeding than the more common black/blue/yellow ribbon morays - Rhinomuraena quaesita). I have two empty SW systems at the mo and decided to get the eel and place it in the tank next to my bed that was set up for frog-man.

Obviously, being a white to cream fish in such a light tank he is pretty hard to see, but I did my best, and the results are here:

And to give a better idea of the lovely colour and markings of the body, here are some shots of the main body to tail.

Great pictures Andy. Such a shame about Frogman, he was one great looking fish!

they certainly are some great pictures, gotta love frogman eels preddy too

is frog-man saltwtaer i'm guessing? what is he? i am thinking of having a 20-29 g later on in the summer for either a pair of clownfish and lots of anemone or something like a small eel or somethin.

Frog-Man was an Antennarius striatus, so yes, he was marine. I made the switch to marine last spring and since have found the freshwater side holding less and less appeal for me, with the possible exception of my chalceus and silver sharks.

Just wondering if you figured out what caused you to lose 9 fish. Since you bought another fish, i'd say you must have. Awesome eel!!!

Best of luck,
Mike

I still have absolutely no idea what caused the earlier deaths. Possible causes are something on a newer batch of Live Rock, or from a move around of tanks. I don't think I will ever know.

awwwwwwww RIP Frog Man

new fishy's lovely though.

Here's a couple more pics of the guy

In great news, he ate some frozen prawn off a stick tonight, which is truly fantastic news. The ribbon eels (these even more so than the black/blue/yellow ribbon eels) are known for being very hard to move from live to frozen (and many won't even take frozen) so this is truly great. Was good to see his appetite as he really worked at ripping the prawn from the stick.

Sorry that Frogman passed away, I had never seen pictures of Antennarius striatus until I saw yours on the board :(

Awesome eel though, are you planning any tank mates for him?
