Hi there,

I would like to get some Cory's and I considered possibly some neon tetras and maybe a couple of Rams?
Does anyone have any suggestions for good tankmates for Cory's? I have not decided which ones yet but I suppose it depends on what my lfs have in stock, however I would like some Pandas or maybe some Sterbas....? Any ideas?

Hi Cory_Cat :)

Corys are a good addition to any peaceful community tank, with fish of similar size and temperament, provided it is kept in the proper temperature range for the species you choose.

For example, C. pandas, likes their water to be in the 72-77 degree F. range, while C. sterbai prefer it to be 75-82 degrees. Other corys that are often found in lfs include C. aeneus (bronze and albino), C. metae (bandits), C. paleatus and C. trilineatus (often sold as Julii). Here's the list from PlanetCatfish so you can look up any others you might find.

I wouldn't recommend keeping corys with any cichlids, such as rams, or other possibly aggressive fish. :D

Hello! You could keep them with most schooling/community fish. Zebra danios, neon tetras, cloud minnows, ect. Be sure to have at least 3 corys so they feel safe. Hope this helps, Corys are great!! :good:

I have 3 peppered cory cats abd 3 julii cory cats with 5 tetra neons, and they all live together fine.

I want some tiger barbs next but i know htey can be a little aggressive so will have to get at least 6 of them to calm them.

Does that help to calm them, but getting more of their own kind?

I'm so confused :S
Whenever I seem to decide on some fish I find out why I can't have them...different water stats/temp or my tank is too small. :(
I would like some Corys and maybe some Tetras? Any ideas on what mixtures would be best? My Ph is around 6.8?

yeah the mroe you keep the less aggressive they tend to be. They tend to get more occupied with each other than other fish. Still probably not the best idea to keeep them with long finned fish such an Angel fish though.

Cory Cat,

I have 5 Neon Tetras and 3 Julli Cory Cats with 3 Peppered cory cats and they are all fine. You should keep the Cory cats in at least a group of 3 as they like to shoal.

Tiger Barbs do better if kept in a large group. They tend to stick with/pick on each other if there are several. Dont mind what she/he said it has nothing to do with your corys and tetras.
As some people have said you may want to stay away from the neon tetra and get a hardier tetra. Especially if this is a new set up. As for the corys I would for sure get 3 - of any kind. More if you can. Hope that clears it up for you!

Thanks Breeze :)

I thought neon tetras were quite hardy?
