Do you think a Male A. Caciatuoids would tolerate any other dwarf cichlids in a 20 gal tank. I was thinking maybe a pair of golden rams.

Well I haven't owned a Caciatuoids but having owned some dwarf cichlids before I think it would be ok...but I haven't owned one before

I would say if it is a 20 gal long yes. They might chase each other now and then but if they have enough room for the Cockatoo to have his own territory it should be OK.

It's a 2x1x1ft tank, so if that is a 20 long, then ok. I'm still undecided though, i think i'm quite heavily stocked at the moment anyway, but i mainly only have small fish.

I have:-

9 Bronze Cory's (3 adult, 6 various stages of juvi)
6 Neon tetras
3 Cherry barbs
1 A. Caciatuoids

The tank is heavily planted, with a gravel substrate, bogwood and terracotta pot hard decor. And filtered with a Fluval 3+.

i've had them with rams before with no problems, so long as they have plenty of room, caves and hiding places they should be fine.

as with all cichlids it's somewhat risky but i think it's certainly worth trying, just have a plan B in case they do fight

I'm looking for something other than platy's or gouramis. Platy's just haven't done well for me, most dying within a couple of days, or looking ill for months before dying, the same with gourami's. Although i did have a dwarf that while it was a bit of a bully, was a lovely fish.

I fancied Angel fish before i started, but made the decision that a 20 was too small, and still do. Dwarf Cichlids are a good alternative, and while i'd like to replace the female A. Caciatuoids, they're really hard to find near me. I have seen golden rams which appear to be the smallest of the rams but i don't want to cause war between the apisto and the rams. My plan B is a 10 gal planted nano, but i have other stocking ideas for that tank.
