Hi...I've seen some FW members out there in the past mentioning thoughts about setting up a freshwater marine tank, i.e., designing a FW tank with fake corals and a light substrate and colorful tropicals. Sounds like it may not totally replicate their natural habitat but I was curious to see if anyone 'did it up'. Feel free to post pix and/or comments as to why they didn't pursue it. SH

It's a dream of mine, but just a dream.

IMHO it would look awful! I think it's much better to try to replicate the fishes natural habitat, if you want marine then buy marine.

I agree with Kev.

I've seen all the stuff for the marine tanks and IMO that's where they belong. I would, I hasten to add LOVE a marine tank but know my limitations!

Just don't like the wild colours in the marine tank unless they are matched by the fish!

Personal opinion though I would say!

:)

  Oh boy! That would be something. But I do remember a post or two a while back alluding to this plan. How's your cube doing? I'm on either page 10 or 11 of your journal.

Blech. Our local "Red Lobster" has one of these numbers and it's just awful. Fake anenomes and blood parrots just do not look nice together :alien:

Aqualog actually do a book on this called "Freshwater Reef Fish" which documents the most colourful Malawi cichlids.

Now that image is burned into my brain, Wuv, gee thanks... :S

Don't laugh...I'd be interested in flipping thru that book. lol. SH

I think it would look awful too, but thats jus IMO.

I dont like anything "fake" in my aquarium.

I don't know if this qualifies but My LFS has a malawi cichlid tank that on first glance appears to be SW. The sand looks like live sand and the lava rock structure gives the impression of a dead reef. I don't know if that's what they were going for but I think there tank is a fair imitation of a SW tank. No fake anemone or anything like that. I guess you guys would just call it a cichlid tank but it always makes me think of SW and it's STUNNING.

Well, then Torrean, share..feel free to post of pic of your tank. Would love to see it. SH

Sadly I don't own the tank. It's in an lfs about a half hour away. The next time I go in I'll ask if I can take a pic. Sorry.
