Fresh Veggies

ive been reading that fish like variety in their diet, so ive been thinking about feeding my fish fresh vegetables, but aside from zucchini and cucumbers, i dont know what else is safe to feed them or how to prepare it.

ive also heard they like live food... i havent checked for it at any of the lfs, but it sounds expensive

ive got mollies and platies and plecos and cories

im betting someone has asked this before, but i couldnt find any links about it in the stickies

What type of plec do you have? Not many realise that they aren't all haervicores. Some Byransistrus speies for example need meaty foods for the main part of their diet, so knowing the spicies will let us better work out it's ideal diet If you don't know the type, get onto planetcatfish.com and browse through their photo library untill you find a fish looking similar to yours

The mollies and corries tend to go mad for de-shelled peas IME, and the ruffage in them realy helps to "flush out the system" To feed these, cook first, and crush them between your fingers to break the shell and thus enable them to eat the contents.

The pleco will likely not touch the peas though, so I'll have to wait and see what species you have before I can recomend something for it

k i have a rubbernose pleco (Chaetostoma sp. aff. milesi) and either Hypostomus punctatus or Pterygoplichthys pardalis (both called "common pleco")

it might help u figure out which it is if i tell you the price... the common pleco was only three bucks, and hes fairly small and hes a speckly brown and black

OK, cucumber and zuchini (corgette for us UK folks) is a favorite with those plecs. I'm not too shure about rubber noses, but I belive veg should make the bulk of the diet of commons, with bloodworm offerd as an occastional treat Lettuice and spinach can also be offered, along with patato, but IME commons aren't as keen on these
