I was wondering if you changed out to much water of your tank in 2 short a period of time would it cause the tank to start to cycle all over again. I've heard it would and it makes since but I didn't know if anyone can verify that this is true. Dave
Well the real worry about doing water changes too quickly is shocking the tank with improper salinity, calc, alk, and/or temp. If the new water is significantly different in any of those categories you can get some dieoff and a ammonia or other nutrient spike. The risk of such an occurrence on a new tank is very minimal however (especially if its just LR). If its a tank full of sensetive corals and other lief forms, then quick water changes are a last resort, but if its a young tank, there's no real problem with doing that
No nitrate/ammonia should be present in RO water. When you do a water change with synthetic sea salt, some brands of salt actually contain the nitrate etc, so its not from your tap.
If you use a good quality synthetic salt, with RO water, there shouldnt be huge nitrate/ammonia readings anyway.
