Hi

Recently I bought 10 Neon tetras which where put in a plastic bag to bring home as usual.

When I got home and floated the bag I realised that there was a shrimp in the bag too!

In the tank with the neons in the shop there were shrimps advertised as 'filter shrimps'. Does anyone know anything about these shrimps, how big they get etc. Its only about an inch long at the moment and is transparent with tiny black dots all over it.

Thanks

I'd guess Japanese Algae eating shrimp, I have two (I think...bought two but have never seen both at the same time) They just go all over the place and eat stuff off the bottom and such

edit~I would guess it's full grown, mine are about and inch too :)

True Japanese Algae Eating Shrimp are expensive. There are a number of species of Ghost Shrimp and on different continents so I'm guessing it's one of the cheap variety used as feeders. They're useful though like Sorrell said and I would get more of them if you could. Some grow only to an inch and some get to around 3 inches.
