hello folks.
my thirty(us) gallon tank is cycling right now, and i have a trio of danios and a pair of black neons that will go into it when its done. a friend at work has a tank that he needs to break down due to moving and he has a group of five german blue rams in there that i offered to buy from him, and he said i could just take em.
my question is this: if i can pick a pair out of the group, would i be best to do that, or should i just take all of them? i intend on adding a group of five harlequin rasboras and a pair of killies to that tank also, and i just wonder if five rams would be too many in that tank. what do you think?

Take all five, that way, if any die from the transition to a new tank (I gave up keeping these for this reason, of course then I was only seven or so :p) , you will have some left :)

yeah i figured that i would take them all in the interest of giving myself the best chance to get a pair. thanks for the encouragement

take all 5?

if theres even 2 males in the group then theyll fight and there not the kinda fish were the weaker one backs down.

they jus keep goin.

u jus want a male and a female. theyll pair up no problems.

I have two males and they get on Ok in my community 29G, its fairly well planted though, with hiding places.

I've only got two males because I've never ever been able to find a female ram :(

ive found you can get away with 2 males in a smaller aquarium because they dont get a chance to stake out a territory.

mine were ok in my hex 2geva but then when they got there own space in my 80 gal they really didnt like each other.

I see no problem taking all five. There will be enough fish to displace aggression in the tank, and why risk getting only two fish that may not really be a pair. Also, with only two there is a chance that one could die leaving the owner with only one half of the pair.

the reason i was originally going with the idea of taking all five is that i think this will give me the best chance of getting a pair. eventually, i want only one pair of rams in the tank, but if i just say "i'll take that one and that one" then the other ones will go somewhere else and i could end up with two males or two females or something like that. then i may actually have to pay for fish

well i have bad news. apparently the group of rams that i was going to inherit consisted of one male and four females. this was good, cause i woulda had my pair. bad thing is, the male is dead. the current keeper said that he was being harassed by all the females and finally was killed. does this make sense?
what are the chances of four females getting along?
