I bought some ghost shrimp as a treat for my oscar today (he should have to work for his food sometimes... he needs the exercise! ) and the lady at my LFS jokingly said "I didn't charge you for the dead one!" since there was indeed a dead one she scooped up by accident... she also, apparently, didn't charge me for the feeder guppy that I guess had snuck in with the ghost shrimp! I don't mind feeding live foods, but I would have felt bad about just dumping my little stowaway in with my oscar... so he's now living in the 5 gallon beside my comp with the two unwanted platies I took from a friend, and has been exploring his new home from top to bottom. He's one lucky feeder, if you ask me! :p

I'd say he's lucky! I know that my guppies are eventually going to become feeders, because it turns out the LFS doesn't want to take them. I'd give them to someone nearby who'd just keep them, but no one has the room in their tank or I wouldn't trust them with fish.
Yay, I'm not the only one who keeps tanks next to the computer!

Lol, Im taking those guppies, my Oscar could use the chase.

Oscars sure do love thier ghost shrimp though, dont they? Not to mention Silver Dollars and Tiger Barbs! I bought ten a while back as PETS! lol, they didnt last 30 seconds, all 10.

DB :fish:

I am looking at getting an oscar and blood parrot soon for my 100 gallon, so I assume I will have to throw an occasional feeder fish in the tank. :-( I am afraid I'll end up filling my 29 gallon and spare 10 gallon with "cute" feeder fish.

Nah, I wouldn't say it's 100% necessary... I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives, if feeding live foods makes you squeamish

Buy other alternatives for your fish endilliteracy! Try frozen shrimp etc. Its all good! LOL

Anywho, That feeder fish is remarkably llucky. I had a bought my dozen harliquins and "recieved" a little surprise in my bag once i got them home.

He was a little danio, and i mean little. He had no colour cause he was soo little.

Afraid of what my gouramis might do, i put him in a breeder for two days, and took him back to the lfs......hhehehe. They thought i was strange for taking my time to bring him all the way back. But i didnt want him!

Had a couple of oscars last time I kept fish.Never fed them live fish at all .The main food I used was tinned CAT food!!They loved it.You could even hold it in the tank on a fork and they would take it from it! Give it a try.Their table manners are crap though!!
