Hi all,

Ive been treating my community tank for ich for the last 2 weeks. Finished the course of treatment, so last night did a 50% water change. In doing this i noticed my two black phantom tetras where still showing signs of white spot. They still had a few spots. I also noticed they had bulging eyes and every so often they would open their mouth wide as if they where belching.

I decided id start a new course of treatment. This time i used interpet no 6. (ran out of protalife). I added the treatment put on the air stone and went to bed. When i got up this morning the two tetras where dead. But now three of my four black diamond tetras had died and the fourth was swimming round frantically. It had turned a very light white colour looked a bit ghostly then gasped at the surface and died.

I have no idea what caused these fish to die. The rest of the fish are looking quite healthy tonight i have two x ray tetras who are opening their mouthes as if to belch but they are swimming round happily.

My ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and ph are all fine. Im totally baffled

If anyone has any ideas id greatfully recieve them

Cheers all

Whitespot can soon kill a fish and cause bacterial infections on top.
If some fish still have spots you will have to get treating again, raise temp to 30, increase aeration in the tank.

Could there be another bacterial infection going round in there because the four black diamond tetras had no sign of ich. They where swimming round happy as larry

If the tank still has whitespot you still need to treat.According to this article whitespot rarely causes pop eye.http://www.flippersandfins.net/pop-eye.htmGoing white, gasping, and darting can also be medications.Did you run black carbon for two days before you added the bacterial med.

Best to always run black carbon after using a med to remove the rest of the med.
Did you declorinate the water, and how many gallons is the tank.
What was the ph of the tank to your tap water.
Could of been a number of reasons, whitespot, large water change,, did you match the temp of the tank with the fresh water, or the meds, if a fish is weak something like a large water change and meds can soon kill them.

Yes dechlorinated the water, ph is the same around 7.5, Its a 30 gallon tank. I think maybe it could have been the mix of the two different meds that caused the deaths to the weaker fish

That ok then just wanted to check.Going pale is a sign of stress and desease, were they gasping after the water change. This is a interesting read if you have time to read it.http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=211195If some fish are still looking odd I would dilute the med down with a water change.Have you increased aeration in the tank.
