Was adding new media and cleaning out my external filter and noticed a Platy Fry in the water! I quicky tried to find something to scoop it out as the water was very dirty and cloudy in there but it had vanished. I poured the water from the filter into the kichen sink (partner wasn`t happy) and left it a while for the dirt to settle and out the little thing popped! There was only one, the rest must have been eated before the filter had chance to suck them up! The little guy is doing well. This is the 3rd time i have raised fry this way

I've had the same thing happen strangely. Only mine was in my canister filter and he was almost 3/8ths of an inch long. I always turkey baste my fry into a net to survive, but this guy lived on poop heh.

Filter Fry!

LoL! I found one of my Molly fry in the filter, the other 32 were in the tank!

Why were you adding new filter media?

I regularly get yellow labs and bristlenose in my canister filter.

The largest yellow lab was over an inch long! He must have been in there a few weeks - I expected him to shriek 'Bright Light, Bright Light' when he finally came out!!

Must be a bit of a shock to a new fry when they are sucked up the pipe into a roller coaster of water!!

In the early days before checking my old water from water changes, I had poured 30 lts down the toilet. (I pour it over the front lawn these days, through a net) About an hour later my wife started to b*****k me over leaving this sludge in the loo without flushing when she shreeked, it's moving! Closer investigation proved over 10 fry living quite happily in there. I netted them and popped them back in the tank via the breeding trap. All survived, of which I still have 2 (gold platy, see 1st pic in sig.) and as far as I know the others are still fine too (friends) I think their early fright toughened them up a bit :good:
