hi all,
I was cleaning today and I moved an ornament in my tank and noticed a ditch with convict cichlid fry in. I caught a few and placed them in a breeding box however they kept fallin through the holes. I have read that they mother there young however my wife said she noticed some fry a few weeks back but thy all died /were eaten. I would any information on what steps I need to take as my wife said there were hundreds before and I don't want to loose the fry like the last lot. I have a 4ft tank but there are other fish in the tank what are the chances of the fry surviving and what can I do to help the process of them surviving

do you have any other tanks you could put them in for now? I was told the best way to save fry like that born in a community tank is to siphon them out into a safe place (preferably big enough to grow in)

I don't have another tank the adult cichlids seem to be driving everything away but it was the feeding I was worried about more than anything as there are other fish in there I have no way of knowing if the fry are getting any food

well... you could try some "baby food" and by that I mean take a hard boiled egg and some cooked peas, some flakes or frozen brine shrimp, whatever you happen to have, puree it in the blender, freeze it and toss little chunks in the tank.  It's super messy but so fine that the biggens won't get all of it by any means.  Then feed some regular stuff too to fill up big tummies.
