I'm new to planted tanks. I need some foreground plants that are not particulary difficult to care for but also won't carpet my tank. Does anyone know of any?

How much light do you have? You might try pygmy chain swords (Echinodorus tennellus). Medium care requirements, but they are short and nice looking IMO. Apparently they will carpet your tank, but only at high light intensities. I'm actually trying to get them to propagate without success (at 4 watts per gallon + CO2).

Hi Sinistral,

Do you have a nutrient rich substrate i.e. laterite mix or flourite. I beleive most Echinodorus sp. are gross feeders and get a lot of their nutrients through their roots, this coupled with you high lighting and co2 should be ideal. Just a thought :D

Thanks for the advice gf225! I have a fluorite substrate. My switchover to CO2 and higher lighting was recent, so I'm still holding out hope that the plant will propagate.

I don't want to hijack MithrilRider's thread though...do you have any thoughts for a foreground plant that's not too difficult and won't propagate?
