How big is your tank? If it is bigger than a 30 gallon you can have anything in there you like except platys, guppys, mollies and swordtails and all other live bearers that I forgot except for pikeguppies. They have a temper that matches perfectly with the kribs when they are a pair. No other cichlids should be in there except appistogramma aragazzi wich would need to be in a 40 gallon with the kribs( aragazzi's breed in herims). I hope that this info is very helpful.

I had a feeling I'd been saying it wrong... thanks Dwarf!
I just realized I said I would be into breeding them, but I'm not wanting to do that... sorry for the typo!
I think I'll go with 1 pair of kribs (I'll check around for the albinos, I've never seen them before), a trio of dwarf rainbows and a trio of cherry barbs. Maybe a few shrimp for clean-up (until they get eaten anyways! :p ).
Would the coconut shells they sell for lizards be ok in the tank? I think that would look better than the terra cotta, if it wouldn't kill them of course!

Thanks for all the help folks! :D I can't wait now to get it all going!!

At my LFS they have some albino kribs but they are the tinyest things u ever did see

one question i have is will albinos breed with normal ones?

I understand there are slightly different ( i dont kno;w the word) "strains" (haha, what does thta remind you of ;)) of kribs and do they all breed with eachtoher?

The albinos have the same mating rituals but the albinos have a birth defect in which they cannot see as well and the cannot see their fry to give them the level of care that the regulars do. My friend breed albinos and most of the babys were lost because of this defect. I would not get albinos but it is your descison.

I'm BAAACK!! I just got a pair of kribs!!! They didn't have albinos and said it's hard for them to get them, so it's they're the regular coloration. (Kind of glad now that I read the latest replies.) They are BEAUTIFUL!!!
The male is about 4" and the female about half that. They are acclimating right now.

Anyone with an opinion of the coconut shells? I have a tc pot in there right now, along with a fake root/cave thing that's been in there for months. I'd like to use the coconut shell though if the lizard ones will be ok.

Oh, the fellow at the lfs told me that it'd be fine to add an upside down catfish in with the previously mentioned stock. What are your ideas on this?
Thx!!

What tankmates do they have in the 400 ltr (that's about 100 gal, right?)?

far troo many to list but I will say there is a pair of red juwel cichlids with them
yes about 100G

i have a 30 gallon with a pair and about 30 babies which they are brought up.

they are pretty relaxed and rarely leave there corner

It should be o.k. How big is your tank? You will have to boil your coconut shell before you put it ino you can sterilize.

it's a 20-gal. Kribensis12, you're saying it should be ok with an upside down catfish, too, or just the reptile coconut?
Wolf, do you have a pic of that tank anywhere? I'd love to see that!
Callum-parsons, I'd like to see pix of yours as well, if they're available.
Thanks all!

sweet! I love those freaky fish! I'll be going this coming week to grab one I think.
Thanks!

ETA: is it normal for them to be digging a hole in the sand under the cave? They have a rather large one done already. It's cool watching them spit the sand out though!

I'd be concernd if they weren't digging a hole!!!LOL Yes the coconut shell and the upsidedown catfish will be fine.

Sweet! So far I have to say, why didn't I get some of these before!?!? :hyper:
Oh, one more question, the female is all colorer up (beautiful, btw!) and she keeps kind of bending towards the male, like she's trying to show him her stomach. Is this normal as well, or is there something wrong with her?
Thx, kribensis12!

YES! She is trying to court the male and by the way, it sounds she might be having babies whin the next 3 weeks. Or they are trying to establish a territory. Bending and trying to show her stomach means she wants to have him think that she has the worlds biggest belly! And she wants to pair up with him( The male is probably buying the whole" worlds biggest belly thing". Post when you have some eggs I would like to see a pic.

Wow! I didn't expect them to try to breed so soon! I guess everything is just perfect in there, bc the whole tank is horny... the rainbow male flashing and carrying on and the cherry barbs too! You'd think it was spring time in there.
(I wish the whole "Look at my sexy BIG belly" thing worked on humans!)
I'll keep an eye out for eggs, and try to get pix if I can. Do you think she'd lay them down in that hole they've dug, or in the caves somewhere?
