Recently I switched my 35 and 45 gallon tanks over to white sand, and I am loving it.

I have already gotton good at cleaning it and the fish are loving it. My only problem is that it shows EVERYTHING :D

How does everyone go about keeping it neat and tidy? Just daily cleaning or what?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions,
Colen.

every 3 3 or 4 days i take a syphon and gently syphon everything off the top

very easy

That's white sand for you :p but it's lovely though.
I just do a vac every few days - it's a matter of minutes, so no big deal. Once a week I lightly stir the sand and lift driftwood to ensure nothing compacts.

That is what I have been doing so far, its only my 3rd day with it. It's actually a lot quicker than vacing gravel. I am pleased so far, and it looks awsome.

a technique that works well if you don't feel like vaccuming that much is just swirling the water over the sand a little bit to create kind of a whirlpool (enough to pick up the debris but not the sand)...this will bring the particles up into the water column and most should make it to your filter - it works especially well in a planted tank where you can't always get a vacuum down to the bottom of the tank.

EDIT: almost forgot - eventually you wont notice it....at first when i switched to sand my eye was drawn to every little dark particle on the sand..but now that it's been a few months i actually prefer the spots of debris here and there - it looks so much more natural than clean sand lol

i tend to find the poo gets moved out of sight under wood. all i do then is vac around the wood with my weekly water change, i then lift the wood every couple of weeks to get all the crap out.

I do the Swirling thing as well.
Just swirl above the sand and move to the Filter Inlet.
