My daughter and I (she is 4 y/o) are going to be setting up some Triops for her in a typical style tank. My girlfriend then pipes up, "I might let her have a goldfish in there afterwards".

As you can imagine, after a lot of explaining from me on sizes, filtration, space etc etc and her saying, "I didn't think goldfish needed filters" I came up with the possibility of a betta.

Is this feasible?? The tank is typical Triop size although I don't know how much water it holds, not a lot, I know that. Could I run it without a filter doing say, water changes every other day using tank water from my Rio 180 with nil ammonia and nitrites and minimal nitrates? Also, what is the best temperature to keep a betta at?

As you can probably tel this i my first foray into the betta world and I really need some advice.

Thanks

Bettas do not need filtration as long as you do frequent water changes. A small heater is nice, bettas like temps of 75-84 degrees, but if you keep that tank in a room that never falls below 75 degrees a heater isn't 100% necessary either, though it is recommended. Any other questions please feel free to ask :good:
