this one is turning out to be costly for me.
I bought a betta in a cup at Wal-Mart out of sympathy. I already had a one-gallon bowl, so I bought the betta and food, period. Then I found this site and started reading up. So I bought water conditioner instead of just letting the tap water stand for 48 hours like we used to do.
I saw all the natural looking, beautiful tanks people have posted pictures of, so colored marbles (which I already had) in the bottom of the bowl would no longer do and I bought nice rocks and a plant.
I read more, and learned about ammonia and cycling. And what if the water gets too cold this winter? So now I have bought a 2.5 gallon filtered tank for the betta. And I still have to buy a heater and thermometer, they didn't come with the tank.
So up to this point the $3 betta and the information on this site has led me to invest $50 in fish products/accessories. But the betta will be living well....
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to share their knowledge here.
