About flake food

I commonly find that when feeding flake food, fish 'sniff' some flakes, and leave in search of others. Often I see the same flakes being rejected by different fish. Sometimes they eat it and spit it out, sometimes they chew it and spit it out. Sometimes it seems ultimately rejected, and sometimes someone eats it eventually. Is this all quite normal, or is my flake food just not tasty enough? I've tried Aquarian and Nutrafin max. Same behaviour. I've read a bit about the constituents of fish food, but in reality, most stuff on the market seems quite similar anyway!

About live and frozen food

How much better is live food than frozen? Frozen food should be pretty good really I'd have thought? Is it worth anything to give your fish live food occasionally?

About DIY food

I found this article and thought it was fascinating. Does anyone have any opinions on it, or experience to share?

Flake food has different colors to resembale the flavor of the flake. Some fish only eat cerain colors. I find that omega flake has the best feeding response. Frozen and live food are basically the smae but live food is usually sick so I would go with the frozen. DIY food is good as long as you dont feed it too regularly becuase it can cause ammonis, nitrite, and nitrate spikes.

Thanks :) I guess the colour to taste flake thing should have been obvious. It doesn't say anything about it on the pots and I think I just assumed colour meant colour ;-)

I sort of thought that live must be rather similar to live, but some people, usually in connection with breeding, talk about mixes do live and frozen, so doubt took root in my mind a bit.

you could try a bit of variety, i feed my fish two days of flake food then a day of freeze dried and every so often give them a bit of cucumber etc

Live generally offers more stimulation than frozen, the nutritional content is similar, although you can gut load live with things to improve the nutritional content.
