Posting this on another thread but thought it might interest others.Last time I kept oscars I never fed them live fish etc. However they just loved tinned cat food .They would even take from a fork held in the tank.Their table manners were crap though!!

watch though

cat food should be good for carnivorous fish as cats are mostly carnivorous but there is usually sauce with cat food that must containe sugar. i don't know if that's good for fish

I have fed dried catfood biscuits to my fish and although they werent fantasticly keen on them they ate them.
As long as the catfood is a fish based one then it shouldnt harm the fish but i wouldnt recomend feeding mamal based foods like lamb, beef or rabbit to fish as mammal fats are very difficult for fish to digest.

I dunno if I'd feed cat food to my fish... even the fish-based ones often contain "meat by-product" which is basically all the stuff we humans don't eat... this can, with some of the poorer brands of cat food, include such lovely things as hair. I'm careful about what I feed my cat, but being that my fish are more delicate, I'm even more paranoid about their food...

Because it has a high protein content that gives faster growth, a bit like steroids for fish.

most catfoods are made from vegtable fiber, and all vegtable matter....

its the "meat spray" thats bad for fish

DONT BE CHEAP buy fish food

It was 25 years ago that I used to do this.Oscars are a carnivorous fish however, the fish did not suffer any noticable effects. They loved it and lived for years.
