Hi Guys

I have a fluval edge that's been running for around 5 months now, with 6 guppies and 3 shrimp (small).

Recently a layer of white bubbles/kind of foam has formed at the top of the tank and won't go away.

I'm just wondering what may be causing this?

Hmmmm....I'm at a loss now :) Sorry.

Aha no problem :)
from what i gather mate,its 1 of 2 things
.poor water quality
.protein in the water from rich fish food
test your water and cut feeding down a little.
your water bubbles should pop nearly instantly.

if it is protein bubbles, there is nothing to worry about. :good:

dothe bubbles have a rainbow type prism when you look at them???

does your water smell like cigar smoke?

also how often do you have your lights on ?

Water tests comes back fine, no ammonia no nitrite nothing :) -- Im using TetraMin flakes...I feed once daily normally, however they are looking a little fat recently so have stopped to once every 2-3, however the bubbles are still there...

Is there a way to get rid of them apart from manually taking them out? :(

try doing a nice big water change. it may be proteins in the water.

also have you had this before?
somtimes attacks like this are caused by cyanobacteria.
this is the naughty algie/slime nasty

what are your nitrates from your tap and in the tank at present?
also how long are your lights on? (be honest)

cheers
the dipper

Lights: about 16 hours a day at the moment, growing some plants in there

Tank has only been going 6 months, about 3 with fish in it, the bubbles have been present over last month or so. I do a 80% water change every weekend pretty much, 90% sometimes too. I did a 50% yesterday morning to see if it helped, seems to make it worse.

Nitrates at tap is 0-5ppm, in tank atm is 20ppm
