Thoes of you who have a Fluval 2,3 or 4 plus will know about the Venturi system avalible with the filters, does anyone know how they rate up against a air pump for oxygenating the water. I use it on mine but was thinking of getting a air pump so the water level can be highter.

Hi Matthew, I have 2 Fluval 4 and 1 Fluval 3 and I use the venturi system on them all and the fish are happy enough and there are allways lots of fine bubbles in the water. The flow of bubbles drops as the filter slows so as soon as the stream of bubbles starts to decrease I clean the filter and ist back to full flow again. I have noticed however if the stream of bubbles does decrease or stop the fish seem less active and not as happy so it does indicate that it makes a difference.

Hey matt

I've got a fluval 4 plus running on my goldie tank, and I have an air pump as well. I don't use the venturi system as I find it too noisy, but run the air pump instead.

I have a cheep filter in my black moor tank( theres only to at presant) and was going to up grade to a Fluval 2 for it. So I think I will use the air pump for my comm. tank thanks Fella. Mad duff I know what you meen, so follow in Fella's foot steps I think

Safe not Sorry

I have a fluval 4 in my 29 gallon tank, and I use the venturi system, the fish are happy as larry and dont seem bothered, it does add extra noise though but not that much.

but the water is well aired, you can see tiny wee bubles floating about all over. I think it is a good option if you cant afford a pump aswell.

also some pumps are just as noisy if not worse. so sometimes it might be 6 and to 3's. :)

I agree with that. Depends what noise you want too. The venturi always made me need the loo...

To be honest I dont really hear any noise from theventuri as I have built wooden hoods for all my tanks and once the lid is shut it blocks out most if not all noise. I have had an air pump on a tank in the living room before and it drove us mad.
