Fluval U3

A few months ago I bought a U3 and was struggling with a churny mechanical noise.

Fluval replaced the impeller and the impeller rod. The noise continued, but after a few weeks of not moving or cleaning the filter it had become almost silent.

Now when i do a water change, i leave the filter running and submersed in the water.

However on the last clean it obviously got a tiny bit of air in it, and this brought back this annoying noise! I've removed the pump, cleaned it, moved it around in the water to try and remove and air bubbles, and it is probably louder than it has ever been!

Anyone had any experience with this? Getting very annoyed with this filter!

I have just set up a 100 litre tank with a fluval U3. Extremely quiet and seems to be a nice filter. Why don't you ask for an exchange but keep your existing filter media for the new filter?

I did ask to exchange but it was bought online, which means id have to send the filter back and wait for another. That would leave me using my old noisy filter and risking another mini cycle which i had when i switched to this. very frustrating times!

So I managed to get an exchange. New filter installed, old media kept... same noise!!

Granted filters will take a few days when new, but this filter is far from quiet in my view.
