I did.

Still couldn't see anything in the tank for 24 hours.

you shouldn't as it's a soil. You should just fill the tank slowly, hey presto, clear water from the start. Thats one of the benefits of these soils.

All of these soils, oli knott, Florabase, TMC soil etc etc, all come from the same factory in Japan anyways.

always fill up using gravity and with 3 small bore, tubes hanging out of a bucket during a water change.Lets me get on with other stuff, safe in the knowledge that it can't overflow
