Today I collected a fluval roma 240, my stock will be 1 tiger oscar, 1 pair of firemouth and 10 columbian tetra. The tank came with a tiny fluval 2 which obviously wont be nowhere near enough, my question is as the mini filter has been cycled, once ive bought an external filter could I add my fish with the uncycled external and the cycled mini? would the cyced mini filter be enough to handle the bio-load while the external grows its good bacteria?

Thanks

(for those thinking the oscar will eat the columbian tetra, im experimenting, they will all be juveniles so ill see what happens)

I am not familiar with the workings of the Fluval 2 filter but can you take the media out of it and add it to the media in the external? If so, that's what I would do unless you still need the Fluval.

Thanks,
Steve

lol Good luck

Thanks,

i recently swapped my fluval U2 for a JBL external e700. I basically did just that, removed the two sponges from the U2 and crammed them into my external. I put one sponge in one of the trays and the other in another tray.

No fish deaths at all and water quality wasnt affected
