Need some help because I've been getting mixed answers.
On my Eclipse System 12 I have a SW FOWLR & LS setup. On the stock filter/pump unit I've replaced the stock carbon filter media with a Chemi-Pure bag & on top of that are the Fluval cubes. I also removed the bio wheel that comes with it. Some say to remove the cubes as it's a Nitrate/Nitrite factory. Is this true? I only did this because I saw one guy on the forums who did the same thing on his Eclipse 12. His tank is doing great & all params are normal. I thought the cubes will be the area where beneficial bacteria will grow? Am I wrong in thinking this? If I do need to remove the cubes what should I replace it with ? Should I just leave the chemi-pure bag by itself? Should I put a foam media in there or will that also be a Nitrite/Nitrate factory? Any help will be appreciated.
Thx.

I would definitely remove them, your live rock and every other surface will have plenty of surface area to house the beneficial bacteria. Ditch the cubes!
