Fluval Mirrored 150W

Hi

I put in my new fluval mirrored 150w on my 125 litre tank about 2 hours ago. The water was very cold as i've just set it up. The temp was 7 degrees when i put the heater in, and after 2 hours of the heater constantly heating the water (to a set 26 degrees) its only just reached 10 degrees. Is this normal as i've never had experience with these heaters. thanks

Water has a huge specific heat capacity (needs lots of energy to increase the temperature a small amount) so a little fish tank heater has to work hard to increase the temp rather than just maintain it. My 300 watt hydor took over 24 hours to get the temp of my 300 litre tank from 18 to 26 degrees, if your water is that cold I wouldn't be suprized if it took a day or two to get it up to the right temp.

+1 In fact I predict it will take at least two days. The warmer the room it is in the faster that will be of course.

Thanks alot, i was wondering, because my little 50w in a 40 litre heats up the water in less then 15 mins. Thanks for the advice

Now thats a bloody good idea I have to admit to adding mixed hot/cold now. (Well I did till I pulled the substrate out to get rid of that smell, but intend to in the future..)
