Currently have a Hagen Tropiquairum 88 tank and had it for quite awhile now, everything is great apart from the hang on the back filter, its rubbish it clogs too easily and i'm forever cleaning it and unclogging the dame thing. Decided to invest in a Fluval 204 external filter as i have had experience with 104 model on another tank and was impressed with the water results.

Putting it together was fine, but now im having problems with the tubes as i can't hang them over the tank edge as the lid keeps popping off and leaving a 2inch gap which i don't want to leave for my betta to commit sucide in the night!!!! I thought about putting them through the gaps in the lid top (that didn't work either) now im left with a filter i paid loads of money for and its just sitting there full of tank water and the old crappy filter still running.

How can i over come this??? can i get a different lid????? :sly:

I had a problem with settin up my fluval 204, but i found if you dont use the crappy grey clips that u stick to the hoses, they will fit perfectly in the holes at the back of ur tank lid. Hope that helps?

i tried that but the hoses kept floating @ the mo i have my tank lid up in the air!!!! dont think i be able to get another lid as the tank is a funny size.

Have you got the elbow things that they supply as an alternative to the clips? I used 2 of them on each hose and it shapes them over the back of the tank.

the problem here is the tank - the hood is hinged on the back of the tank.

you will need to remove the access panel in the centre of the hood at the back and cut out the white plastic benith that to allow access. then you winn need to cut away the black cover to let it fit over the filter hoses...

i'd get an internal :)

we run our 88 on an aquaclear powerhead filter and the biolife it came with (which i agree on all you coments about it!)

I've got a tropiquarium 55. Managed to break the filter (you could never get the cover off anyway) so phoned Hagen for advice. It's actually really easy to remove the old filter and wire in a different internal power one if you want - just undo the two screws holding the light switch in place and you'll see what to do.

that doesn't help with your fluval external tho' - sorry :(
