Hi all,

Does anyone on here use the fluval internal filters?

I have fluvals in all my tanks and I have always got them on the maximum flow settings, the thing is sometimes i think the flow might be too high for my tanks. I always see my fish trying to fight the current.

Turning them down will cause the filter to work inefficiently right? I've tried the spraybar but to tell you the truth i thought it was useless, anyone got any ideas/input on the situation.

I have:

Fluval2 Plus in my 2ft
Fluval3 Plus in my 3ft
Fluval4 Plus in my 2ft Cube

Thanks

Are you sure the fish are not 'playing' in the current? Many will do this. Unless you're filters are seriously oversized the fish shouldn't have a problem finding areas in the tank with less current.

Here's an interesting bit for you. While slowing down the flow decreases the mechanical capability of the filter, it actually improves the biological capability, by giving oxygen and toxins more exposure to the bacteria.

They could well be "Playing" and as for turning it right down, I never thought of it like that! So what is better mechanical/biological?

I have 2 Fluval 2s and a 1. One of the 2s in on max, and one is on min and I've never had any problems in either tanks due to the filter. I've also used the spraybar with the 2 and the 1 and it worked fine.

I have fluvals on all my tanks ranging from 1 to 4 and they are all set on high. Yesterday my son spotted a 10 week old guppy fry with its head in the mouth of the outlet on my fluval 4 pecking algae  So my fish certainly don't mind the current.

Good comment about turning them down though allowing more time to be in contact with the bacteria :)
