Fluval G Series. Any Good?

I'm thinking about starting up a new 5ft setup (multiple tank syndrome is getting me good) and am interested in using a Fluval G6 for filtration.

Anyone with any experience using the G series? Is the monitoring system reliable? Happy with the results? Is it quiet? etc etc

Any other thoughts welcome before I spend $500 on a filter...

go for it mate... my uncle uses 2 of these and has never looked back!

I wish i could afford one...I have seen them tested and in use and they are brilliant filters. Lets hope they come down in price one day.

any negatives? I guess having to replace the fluval mechanical cartridges would be an ongoing cost, but it would only be every few months I presume. Also I noticed the cartridges have a carbon section - would it hurt taking this out? Carbon aint good for planted tanks...

I had a play with them, there are very good but my LFS agreed that a FX5 is better vaule for money as the G6 is very fancy at the end of the day your filtering a tank not supervising a NASA launch lol
