I have two XP3's on my Rena 2 metre tank, but the water always seems murky and bitty.

I wondered if I put a Fluval FX5 if it would sort things out.

I want crystal clear water and no bits!!!

What do you recon!?!?!

I use an FX5 on a 5x2x2 and the water is always clear, and the filter seems to always be remakably clean when I do maintenance.

I may invest in one then. I know my two XP3's are about the same as one FX5 but they really dont seem up to the job.

I've swapped to fluval's before on other tanks and very impressed with them!!!!

I don't know what you've filled the XP3s with, but I'd be inclined to try some different media first. Maybe finer sponges or filter floss, or dedicating one filter to mechanical only and using the other for bio.

On the other hand, buying new stuff is fun, too.

It sure is lol :hyper:

I think your right though. They are both set up the same. Coarse then medium sponge. Polywool, ehiem balls.

Im going to dedicate them as you said. See what happens and its a lot cheaper!!!!

Your water should be clear with 2 XP3s if you have the right media in them.

I have a fluval 304 on my 55 and I have the sponge, Filter floss(polywool) and bio media. Water stays perfectly clear.

Dedicating one for bio is a good idea for the bio aspect, but it will also collect a lot of unwanted meterial that you want the other filter to pick up.

If it was me I wouldn't dedicate them, although I have no experience with doing that so I can't say to much.

What size tank is a rena 2? I can't find info on it.

2 metres 660ish litres.

It seems pretty clear, but I dont think its crystal clear. Not like my old small tank used to be.

I have 2 xP 3's on a 125USG and I have clear water. My media stack is coarse and medium pads in the bottom tray. Bio balls, fine pad and floss in the middle tray. Floss in the top tray. I cycle filter cleaning so that the second filter is cleaned at least three weeks after the first. I also have the filter pick up and returns staggered so that the pick up in the right rear is returned to the left half of the tank, and vice versa. Enhances water circulation. The redundancy of 2 filters provides some comfort in the event that 1 filter packs up, the second is at least doing partial filtration and circulation.
