I've decided to start my Fluval Flora I got free with a subscription to a magazine. I had it for growing some betta fry I had but now its empty I've decided to do something with it.
In it come Fluval stratum substrate. I'm thinking of using this but had also thought about not using this and using sand only. Any suggestions?
The 3D background had come off, I'm not going to put it back on, I will just use some black backing if need be.
I won't be using the mini CO2 20 that come with it either. I think it will run out too quickly so will make my own FE CO2 at a later date.
I will add pictures and do a journal but at the minute I'm a wee bit stuck with the substrate.

I'd use the substrate mate, it's got to be better for your plants than sand :). What is the volume and what lighting does it have? Also what plants are you thinking of as depending on the 3 factors mentioned you may not need CO2?

I'm no good with lighting. Uuuum, its the one that come with it. On it says Fluval 11W Luminaire:IP47. If that means anything to you
Its only a wee 30ltr.
I hoofed the substrate in about half hour after the first post.

Stocking and plants I'm unsure of. I'm open to suggestions.

Hardscape is going to be granite. I've lots of it laying about outside.

Oh, I should add, the filter has been running for over three months in my severum tank alongside an external. I may get an external.

Well your lighting could leave you with a few options, it's low enough to have no CO2 and low demand plants but high enough to grow anything depending on whether you want to add CO2 and ferts. With a tank that size I'd go with some liquid carbon rather than pressurised CO2 as you'll only need 2ml a day, plus it saves on trying to hide your equipment. :)

Thanks Steve.
Aye, I've ordered some EasyCarbo, what fert would you suggest?
I'm really unsure plant wise. I'm really unsure what's what. Usually I just go for 'oooooh, that looks nice' method. I'm thinking jungle, I'm thinking small. I just don't know.

I seen the people at PFK done a review of this tank, they got another two lights, the same as the one that come with it. I know its a lot easier for them to do though as they get freebies all the time.

Go for an all in one like tpn+ mate, oooooooh a jungle, believe it or not they're not the easiest of scapes to get right, good luck tho mate. :)
