Fluval Filter's

I just clenaed out my tank and when i wnet to put my fluvalfilter3+ back in i ralised it had stopped working, i panicked and knew my lfs wouldn't be open so i got ma dad to have a look at it, We couldn't work out what was rong untill we took off the head rinsed the motore through then it started working again, just thought i would let you know if any of you have fluval filters and they stop working you know what to do now!

although i do not own a fluval- (i actualy have a very old bio-life)
mine did exactly the same thing i even changed some fuses on the plugs before i realised what had happened i now clean the powerhead every weekand think its not a fluval thing it's probably all filters.

what ever type of water pump it is, you are required to clean the impeller to keep the pump running properly. Alot of companies now void the warranty if the impeller hasn't had proper maintenance.

It's more of a problem with pond pumps

i jus got a filter with a tank i bought for xmas (from ebay).

was messin around yesterday checking that everything was set for 2morro when i set it all up and went to try the filter.

worked for about half a second, then jus stopped.

changed the fuse and still nothing.

gave the little propellor thing inside a tap and of it went. works fine.





altho, does anyone elses fluval 4 pro plus run really weakly if u take the bottom off?

the fluval plus range won't run with out the bottom part on and the top of it is part of the impeller housing which directs the impellers flow

still doesnt explain why it stopped the first time tho

if the filters been left dry the crud can dry and stick the parts together making it hard to restart or could of been just a bit of grit.

u reckon its worth replacing the impeller?

how do ya tell if ones worn?

it looks ok and seems to still run ok.

if the impeller has alot of litle grooves in it or chips then it may want replacing but most the time give the impeller and the space where the impeller sits a good scrub and it will be fine again.

jus had a look and it looks new so i guess thats ok. ill give it a rinse in the morning jus to check before i put it in the tank.
