What exactly is the differnce between the 04 and 05 series, i can get the 304 for $80 CDN while the 305 costs alot more, so whats the differnce? i know the 05 series are they "new" ones and the 04 are going to get discontinued soon, so i gotta make my move.

Also If i do get it for my 55G should I take out the fluval 4+, or the top fin HOB filter for 55 gallons? IMO these 2 filters are horrible and doesnt keep the water the way i expect 2 filters to.

I know the 05 series are better models. So whatever problems, if any, they had with the 04's, they fixed in the 05's.

If you have a lite bioload, the 304/305 should be enough filtration. Otherwise, keep whichever filter (Fluval 44+ or HOB) you feel better with. IMO, if the Fluval 44+ is an internal filter, I would skip it and just stay with the HOB.

I believe on the 04 models you had to assemble the aquastop valve part yourself and that there were problems with the seal leaking. The 05 model has resolved these issues. I have a 205 and am extremely happy with its performance. I think there was an adjustment to the priming feature aswell.
