Bought a fluval 405 yesterday but after setting it up it leaks from the seal by the silver clips that hold the lid down.....
Any ideas on how to stop it?

(edit - its second hand but still quite new, the leak is only a drip but its enough to flood my kitchen over 4-5 hours)

Sounds like you need a new seal, take the top off and take the seal out see if its cracked anywhere, if it hasnt been used for a while they dry out and crack. They are only a few quid on ebay, the 305/304 and 404 seals are the same size.

You will have to buy some aquaruim silcone and reseal it.
Once it dryed after aday fill the tank up to make sure it's not leaking.

Star4 - I took it all apart and put a new seal in but still leaking...

Wilder- it's the filter leaking, not the tank...

Sorry!

Haven't a clue then.
It's not always best to buy 2nd hand. As some sellers tell
lies that the goods are in good working order.

I would copy and paste your thread over to tropical discussion, or the d.i.y. section of the forum.

Hiya did you fill the filter with water first then put the lid on if so this causes pressure to push the seal up out of allignment causing leak. You need to empty filter then place lid on and close both clips at the same time then fill filter through top 2 small holes thus causing a vacumm which seals the filter. Mine did the same and that is what i did and mine was brand new you can tip mine sideways etc and not a drop comes out. Hope that helps any other help let me know.
