Hi,
Long time reader and fishkeeper but joined today as I am looking for some urgent advice please.
Opened my fluval 305 external this morning to change the filter floss and I cannot get a vacuum again. I reconnected the filter opened the aquastop valve, filled the canister and when starting it again it worked for a second until the vacuum broke.
Hi,
Opened my fluval 305 external this morning to change the filter floss and I cannot get a vacuum again. I reconnected the filter opened the aquastop valve, filled the canister and when starting it again it worked for a second until the vacuum broke.
I have checked the sealing ring and it is seated correctly but as soon as I fill it and press the priming handle water leaks from between the body and motor housing.
I have tried vaseline and refitting the motor housing about a hundred times and was starting to panic about bacteria dying so dashed off to try an buy a new sealing gasket in case that was the problem (even though there are no visible problems / perishing that I can see). None of my local stockists had spares, so out of desperation I bought a U4 internal filter and have packed it with as much of the media that I can from the external to get me by until I can sort the problem.
The U4 is only rated up to 240 litres which is the size of my tank (Roma 240) so I need a quick fix, any advice / experience anyone can give would be gratefully received.
The bacteria in the remaining external media will have obviously died by now so I will have to run both filters once it is fixed; plenty of water changes and hope my tank doesn't start cycling again.
I have contacted Hagen customer services and am awaiting a reply
thanks in anticipation
