Hi guys

I have always used the aqua clear type filter in my 55 gallon tank and I have decided to replace it with a fluval filter as they are much less noisy than the aqua clear.

Here is my question since the fluval system sits below the water level how does oxygen get into the water. The old aqua clear system was easy waterfall and you could see the bubbles in the water.

With the fluval you don't see bubbles because the outlet sits below the water. Do I need to add anything to the tank to create oxygen.

As you can see I know nothing about this fluval system but the noise was starting to get on my nerves so I had to change.

Thanks in advance for your help

I have the fluval 204 and you don't have to see bubbles for oxygenation. All you have to have is something that disturbs (moves) the surface to create oxygen exchange. I just have my output pulled as high as I can, you can see the water rippling all across the top of the tank.

you need a 404 for a 55 gallon and also if your worried about that just use a power head or air pump.

A fluval 304 should be more than enough it says its good for up to70 gallons correct me if i'm wrong

ive got a 304 in my 75 gal its quite quiet aswell
